The Guardian Podcast Features the ABA Journal’s Year Long Series on Cyber Security.
On the most recent edition of her podcast, Ryn “The Guardian” Melberg discusses cyber security with Jason Tashea. Jason is a writer with the “ABA Journal” and is one of several at the ABA Journal authoring a year-long series on this important topic titled, “Digital Dangers.” To listen to the interview go to www.rynmelberg.com, on Soundcloud or iTunes.
To read more from Mr. Tashea, visit the ABA Journal Digital Dangers website at www.abajournal.com/magazine/cyber/. The series of articles is a joint project between the ABA Cybersecurity Legal Task Force and the ABA Journal.
Ryn and Mr. Tashea’s 20-minute conversation covered examples listeners can learn from, like how law firms are using tabletop simulations to evaluate the possibilities of certain threats they face and how they would likely react to a cyber security incident. “Awareness and the ability to recognize and distinguish legitimate communications from those that are not legitimate are important to the legal profession and any enterprise that is reliant on data management,” Ryn said.
In one example, Tashea described how a ‘phishing email’ penetrated a certain company’s spam filters every two minutes and what they were doing to manage this and other, similar issues. “Cyber security is not only an IT only issue any more, it is something that everyone in an organization needs to be aware of and vigilant about,” Ryn said. Ryn also asked Mr. Tashea about his upcoming piece on cyber insurance, a new area of insurance coverage being used by law firms to cover costs created by ransomware and other threats.
